The Senior Systems Engineer SME will provide multi-disciplinary support to government system acquisition program management offices and will serve as an advisor to government personnel. They will lead working groups and develop engineering solutions to major acquisition program issues. The position will support multiple projects for a variety DoD acquisition program offices, work with senior government personnel on a regular basis, and will frequently be called on to provide briefings and lead large meetings. 

 

Wayne Borchers is our Director, Engineering & Logistics consultancy within Serco; he has many years of experience in all of the functional areas of the DoD Acquisition Framework. In his current role, he builds project teams that require the following expertise:  acquisition logisticians, systems engineers, cost analysts, test and evaluation SMEs, requirements management SMEs and enterprise architects. He is a retired Navy Aviation Maintenance officer.


In this role, you will provide:

 

  • Multi-disciplinary support to government system acquisition program management offices and will serve as an advisor to government personnel.
  • Lead working groups and develop engineering solutions to major acquisition program issues.
  • Support multiple projects for a variety of DoD acquisition program offices, work with senior government personnel on a regular basis, and will frequently be called on to provide briefings and lead large meetings.
  • Perform functional analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you must have:

 

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering / Computer Science or equivalent experience with 10+ years broad technical and managerial experience with DoD, including systems engineering analysis in support of major acquisition programs  
  • An active DoD Secret Security Clearance is required.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented, responsible team player able to work independently with minimal daily direction

 

Preferred skills:

  • Active Top Secret clearance, SCI eligible
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with MBSE/Digital Engineering and ability to provide MBSE/SysML expertise and related support to the entire systems engineering team
  • Prior Airworthiness Certification experience and familiarity with MIL-HDBK-516
  • Experience working with Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) artifacts to include: operations views (OV), systems views (SV), capability views (CV), data views (DV) using systems modeling language (SysML)
  • Develop and extend system models using existing requirements, interface documentation, and related design and systems engineering documents
  • Prior Experience working with other DoD Stakeholders
