Position Description

This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret level clearance post-employment.

 

Serco supports the U.S. Navy as a prime contractor providing amphibious warfare and expeditionary professional support services. We are committed to providing the U.S. Navy with the engineering and subject matter expertise to face all challenges, and welcome those with dedication, talent, and skill sets to join the Serco Amphibious Warfare Team. This opportunity will primarily support technical and programmatic management of the new LCU 1700 class from cradle to grave across the acquisition lifecycle, as well as maintenance of the LCU 1610 class. In this role, you will support the Engineering Team in the drafting, editing, and verification of technical manuals, craft specifications, design reports, etc., as well as support testing and evaluation efforts of subcomponents and craft systems.

 

In this role you will:

  • Perform basic engineering work in analysis, design, development, evaluation, planning, testing and operation, including the collection of information and data, performance of various tests, and engineering computations, measurements, and analyses.
  • Provide production support associated with the documentation used to define the baseline craft, problem resolution, and modifications.
  • Provide technical design management and engineering support for emergent issues in the Fleet and during all availabilities
  • Provide waterfront support including waterfront inspection and repair oversight support for program testing and trials and fleet units.
  • Provide technical recommendations for craft changes, including installation drawings, TM updates, Liaison Action Reports (LARs), etc., as required. Draft reports to document requirements, trade-offs, and basis for craft change
  • Collaborate with government and contractor personnel to develop technical documentation to brief leadership and implement recommendations and changes
  • Perform and review data analysis; provide recommendations based on the data analysis results with presentations of associated data.
  • Review special studies and prepare reports
  • Review test plans and reports
  • Research, design, develop, test, or supervise the manufacturing and installation of equipment, components, or systems.
  • Conduct Configuration Management (CM) by maintaining the integrity of work products using configuration identification, configuration control, configuration status accounting, and configuration
  • Provide basic program management support in project scheduling, developing tracking metrics, and cost estimating
  • Assist the customer with coordinating meetings, discussions, and tracking action items, as needed

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree with degree in Engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college or university plus 0-2 years of engineering experience. Professional experience can be substituted for an engineering degree if 5 or more years of specific work experience can be demonstrated in an analogous or higher-level position. Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.
  • A current DoD SECRET clearance or the ability to obtain a clearance post-employment and maintain per contract requirements. 
  • Ability to operate personal computers and have good knowledge and operational abilities with Microsoft Office suite programs; especially MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
  • Ability to support activities in a shipyard or naval facility. Some work may occur within an industrial field office, outdoors and/or aboard ship while the ship is undergoing construction, alteration, activation, overhaul, repair, and/or underway trials. Walking and climbing throughout the ship, to accomplish ship checks, may be required. Exposure to high noise levels, uncomfortable temperatures, heights, or other industrial safety conditions will require use of personal protective clothing and equipment.
  • Ability to travel 10% to support activities in a shipyard or naval facility or onboard while underway.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • A professional engineering degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college or university is desired. Professional experience can be substituted for an engineering degree if five (5) or more years of specific work experience can be demonstrated in an analogous or higher-level position.
  • Experience and understanding of configuration management of technical manuals, and ship drawings.
  • Experience and understanding of DoD acquisition management.
  • Prior experience working with a DoD Program Office, US Navy Supervisor of Shipbuilding, or in the Navy marine shipbuilding industry is highly desired.
  • Knowledgeable of AutoCAD, SolidWorks 3D, AutoDesk Fusion, or other modeling programs is highly desired
  • Relevant Amphibious warship ship and/or craft experience is ideal.
