Position Description

As the Assistant Electronics Material Officer (AEMO), you will support the U.S. Submarine Force in providing engineering and sustainment support to maintain and improve efficiency of the Submarine Force throughout the Indo-Pacific region.

 

The Assistant Electronics Material Officer (AEMO) directly supports Commander, Submarine Squadron Eleven (CSS-11) in San Diego, CA, which is home to five Los-Angeles Class Submarines stationed at Point Loma in San Diego, the Floating Drydock ARCO (ARDM-5) and Undersea Rescue Command. The Electronics Material Office maintains readiness of its assigned submarines’ electronics for Combat Systems, Electronic Warfare, Imaging, Navigation, and Communications, and the submarine sail structures.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Participate in daily Material Meetings, providing accurate information to the Material Officer and squadron leadership to include the Squadron Commodore.
  • Coordinate with representatives from Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Detachment San Diego (PNS DET SD), Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) Tech Support and other outside agencies.
  • Participate in scheduled production briefs, sail meetings and EMO Conferences
  • Manage TYCOM controlled RFI periscope and antenna assets maintained by the local Intermediate Maintenance Facility (IMF)
  • Conduct performance monitoring of Quarterly Data Reports (QDRs), Technical Feedback Reports (TFBRs), Casualty Reports (CASREPs), metrics, configuration management, and monitor obsolescence of shipboard systems.
  • Oversee or monitor system technology improvements, equipment, technical documentation and failure documentation/data.
  • Coordinate, process, and route MOAs in support of electronics material troubleshooting, repair and coordination as directed by the incumbent EMO.
  • Provide coordination in fleet technical support, integration of system experts, field testing, root cause, performance assessment, risk assessment and mitigation, planning and cost benefit analysis.
  • Conduct ship visits to assist Commander Submarine Squadron Eleven Electronics Material Officer (CSS-11 EMO) in monitoring the operation and maintenance of the following submarine systems and events on the assigned units:
    • Electronic Support Measures (ESM), to include the BLQ-10 system and DF suites, to include Multi-Mission Mast (MMM) and Improved Communication Acquisition and Direction Finding (ICADF) suites
    • Periscopes and Imaging Systems
    • Radars and communication antennas
    • Sail Spruce and Pre-Overseas Movement activity
    • Navigation Systems (VMS, AIS, RLGN)
    • Radio, Ship Control, Interior Communications, Commercial Radars, Central Air Monitoring System (CAMS)
  • Assist the CSS-11 Electronics Materials Officer (EMO) with the following system grooms:
    • ESM, Image and Photo certification
    • External Communications Suite (ECS) and Local Area Network (LAN)
    • Shipboard Electromagnetic Survey
    • Pre-POM and POM Sail Inspections
    • Radio Frequency Distribution and Control Systems (RFDACS)

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • An active Secret clearance
  • US Citizenship
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a technical or similar field 
    • A high school diploma/GED and 4 years of additional experience will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree in a technical field
  • 15 years of experience with submarine communications systems or similar experience.
  • 15 years of experience with submarine electronic systems or similar experience. 
  • 12 years of experience in submarine maintenance, Intermediate Maintenance Activity (IMA), submarine repair or similar experience.
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Prior military service
  • Experience with submarine electronic systems such as EW (BLQ-10), Periscope (Type 8 and Type 18), Radars (BPS-15) and Navigation (VMS and AIS).

In compliance with state and local laws regarding pay transparency, the salary range for this role is $109,087.51 to $177,266.91; however, Serco considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
