Position Description

Come to Serco and make a difference everyday as a Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) Police Dispatcher in Baton Rouge, LA!

 

As a DOTD Police Dispatcher, you can expect to:

  • Receive telephone, radio calls, teletype and alarms for emergency responders.
  • Enter and retrieve information into Computer Aided Dispatch system (CAD).
  • Dispatch police vehicles by radio, CAD or phone, receives and transmits orders to police officers at the scene of an emergencies, crime scenes, motor vehicle crashes, and all other types of incidents requiring law enforcement.
  • Ensure all radio communications comply with Department and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations adhering to radio protocol and the use of proper 10-codes (if applicable).
  • Coordinate with officer in charge (OIC) or Incident Management Coordinator (IMC), dispatching of back-up units.
  • Coordinate radio communication with other local Police Departments, Traffic Management Center (TMC) and Motorist Assistance Patrol (MAP) and all other emergency responders as needed.
  • Dispatch police vehicles to emergency medical calls, notifies ambulance service to respond as needed.
  • Work and closely coordinate with Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) TMC and MAP.
  • Use ATMS iNet software to control and monitor field devices such as Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, Digital Message Signs (DMSs), ramp meters, emergency crossover gates, and any other technology related to devices that may form part of an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS).
  • Use computer terminal to input, retrieve and transmit information from National Crime Information System (NCIC)
  • Receive and transmit information from state motor vehicle files to patrol officers.
  • Report major criminal or emergency calls to Chief or Officer in Charge.
  • Enter data into computer system for records keeping.
  • Retrieve data from computer system and assist in preparation of court information files and case incident reports and prepares files and records.
  • Maintain daily log, wrecker rotation log and security systems files.
  • Test and perform minor maintenance on equipment.
  • Report equipment failure to supervisor.
  • Plan organize and perform work according to standardized operating procedures (SOP’s).
  • Perform related administrative-clerical duties as required.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Technical skills and knowledge acquired from prior communications experience or on-the-job training.
  • Ability to verbally communicate effectively under stressful conditions is a must.
  • Ability to type and operate CAD system, CCTV, computer programs/systems and radio equipment. 
  • Ability to become National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certified

Additional desirable qualifications:

  • 1-2 years prior police/emergency response dispatching experience
  • Knowledge of Public Safety operations.
