Position Description

Serco is seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer II to support the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Panama City Division (NSWC PCD) in Panama City, FL by providing expertise in areas of designing, testing, maintaining, and deploying mechanical equipment within submersible platforms in maritime environments.

 

As Mechanical Engineer II, you will support underwater technology development requiring research, analysis, mechanical component development, and test and evaluation. You will apply knowledge of engineering drawings and rapid prototyping principles to design instruments, controls, and equipment supporting underwater systems in various labs, on ships and ocean vessels, and in saltwater environments. You may conduct product testing and create models. You will be involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of mechanical products.

 

In this role, you will:

 

  • Analyze underwater vehicle mechanical designs, specifications, and technical data to determine whether various systems are ready for developmental/operational testing.
  • Create, modify, and use mechanical drawings and associated software and tools to manage design configurations.
  • Analyze results from systems and capabilities under test/evaluation to ensure performance successfully meets engineering specifications and operational requirements.
  • Investigate system failures, evaluate corrective alternatives, and implement actions to ensure safe, effective operations and minimize/eliminate potential future system failures.
  • Formulate methods and processes which will increase operational effectiveness, safety, efficiency, and readiness.
  • Work within technical support teams to meet field mission requirements and resolve technical issues.
  • Perform platform and payload upgrades as requested by the Govt. customer.
  • Travel as needed to meet customer needs.
  • Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by Serco Management and Govt. customers. 

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Mechanical Engineering plus 2-4 years of relevant work experience.
    • Educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for an additional 2 years of work experience 
  • Must be able to obtain a SECRET level clearance with an existing clearance preferred. (U.S. Citizenship is required)
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, methods, and techniques within a specific area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and engineering design software.
  • Familiarity with Navy research and development concepts, practices, procedures, and testing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to support emergent travel as required for up to 10% of time annually.
