Position Description

Serco has job opportunities available to grow our team in the Newport News community!

 

These positions are supporting our Systems Integration and Installation (SI2) Business Unit. If you have a passion for providing support in integration, installation, repair, and testing services for new and upgraded systems/equipment, let’s talk!

 

  • This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation, and pass a drug screening.
  • This position is contingent upon customer requirements and/or their approval.

Serco supports the US Government customer on a long-term contract which supports Ship modernization support. You will be part of a team that works closely with the customer to deliver SI2 Installation support. Our managers on this team are seasoned Serco personnel who are available and responsive to ensure your success!

 

We need experience in the following areas:

  • Marine Electricians (All experience levels)
  • Structural, Piping and Electrical Fabrication and Installation

 

Qualifications

Junior Marine Electrician

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain and active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • The ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening
  • The ability to obtain an OSHA 10 certification
  • The ability to get respirator qualified and wear PPE throughout the work shift.
  • Experience in electrical work in a related field and shipboard experience.
  • A combination of 1+ years of experience in the following areas:
    • Competency attaching fiber optic, RJ-45, DB type connectors
    • Read drawings (Tradesman level)
    • QCI instruct of lower techs
    • Implement safety program/SRAR Qual/CP
    • Prelim QA testing, MCTs, space closeouts
    • Multipin competent
    • Elec testing reqs, i.e. ground checks, RSPT testing
    • Layout & cutting of electrical enclosures, electrical hook-ups & multiple meter knowledge
    • Reading drawings (Apprentice level)
    • Band/pack MCTs/RISE
    • Layout & mount small equipment as needed
    • Basic knowledge of tools, QA documents, meter
    • Safety: Actively participates in safety surveillances & walk-thrus
  • Familiarization with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation
  • The ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position.
  • Attention to safety, which is critical
  • The ability and willing to travel up to 10% to various work sites
  • The ability to travel to Newport News, VA.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • An active DoD Secret clearance
  • An OSHA Certification
  • Fiber optic certification

Experienced Marine Electrician

  • A combination of 5 years of experience in the following areas:
    • Competency attaching fiber optic, RJ-45, DB type connectors
    • Read drawings (Tradesman level)
    • QCI instruct of lower techs
    • Implement safety program/SRAR Qual/CP
    • Prelim QA testing, MCTs, space closeouts
    • Multipin competent
    • Elec testing reqs, i.e. ground checks, RSPT testing
    • Layout & cutting of electrical enclosures, electrical hook-ups & multiple meter knowledge

Senior Marine Electrician

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain and active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • The ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening
  • The ability to obtain an OSHA 10 certification
  • The ability to get respirator qualified and wear PPE throughout the work shift.
  • A combined minimum of 8 years experience in electrical work and/or Shipboard experience.
  • Experience managing a crew of various trades. (6-10 people)
  • A combination of 8 years of experience in the following areas:
    • Competency attaching fiber optic, RJ-45, DB type connectors
    • Read drawings (Tradesman level)
    • QCI instruct of lower techs
    • Implement safety program/SRAR Qual/CP
    • Prelim QA testing, MCTs, space closeouts
    • Multipin competent
    • Elec testing reqs, i.e. ground checks, RSPT testing
    • Layout & cutting of electrical enclosures, electrical hook-ups & multiple meter knowledge
    • Reading drawings (Apprentice level)
    • Band/pack MCTs/RISE
    • Layout & mount small equipment as needed
