Position Description

 

Serco is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join our team supporting the Pc-based Open-architecture Reconfigurable Training System (PORTS) program based in Middletown, Rhode Island. In this role, you will design and develop simulation-based operator and team training systems for the US Navy, leading software development initiatives and ensuring high-quality deliverables.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Lead by example with a strong work ethic during day-to-day operations and collaborative events with customer representatives.
  • Design and develop Instructor and Student Graphical User Interface (GUI) displays, controls, and functionality.
  • Develop and enhance backend simulation and modeling software to provide appropriate data to displays based on training scenarios.
  • Develop and maintain interfaces between user-facing frontend and simulation backend software.
  • Collaborate with software and systems teams to assist in generation and review of software requirements and designs.
  • Develop, review, and debug software in C++ and C# for the Windows Operating System.
  • Apply a working knowledge of industry standards and trends to contribute to continuous process improvements.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in software development with emphasis on coding in C++ and C#.
  • Solid understanding of GUI design principles and user interface development.
  • Experience working in the .NET environment, particularly using Visual Studio IDE.
  • Experience writing engineering documentation such as Requirements and Design Documents, Test Plans, Test Procedures, and User Guides.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • 8-12 years of software development experience emphasizing C++ and C#.
  • Knowledge of Navy command and control, sensor, and weapon systems.
  • Familiarity with Virtual Machines.
  • Experience with Software Configuration Management (SCM) tools.
  • Experience with modeling and simulation software.
  • Expertise with Navy simulators and training pipelines.
  • Understanding of Open Architecture concepts.
  • Knowledge of network protocols such as CORBA, RTI DDS, DIS, HLA.
  • Experience with Enterprise Architecture and Real-Time architectures.
  • Familiarity with the DoD Risk Management Framework.
