As the Non-Destructive Test Engineer, you will be on a dynamic team providing technical and programmatic support to the VIRGINIA Class Submarine Program Office (PMS450) and the U.S. Navy’s Team Submarine Program Offices at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC!  Bring your expertise and collaborative skills to make an impact on our military defense and safety of our sailors.

 

Serco supports the US Navy as a prime for their Team Submarine SHAPM contract supporting the acquisition of submarines.

 

PMS450 is the acquisition program office for the New Construction of Attack Submarines and for identifying, assembling, managing, directing, and coordinating the resources required for the R&D, design, construction, Test and Evaluation (T&E), Live Fire Test and Evaluation (LFT&E), and Fleet introduction of the U.S. Navy’s newest class of nuclear attack submarines. PMS450  is responsible for developing and deploying a more affordable, nuclear-powered attack submarine with multi-mission capability and enhanced capabilities for performance in littoral areas. VIRGINIA Class submarines support five of the six Navy core maritime capabilities: Deterrence, Maritime Security, Sea Control, Forward Presence, and Power Projection.

 

In this role, you will:

 

  • Aid SB and SY’s in adopting phased array ultrasonics and an alternative to both radiography and conventional ultrasonics for weld certification supporting design affordability.
  • Advise 05P2 TWH on matters relative to NAVSEA adoption of digital imaging to replace film-based radiographer supporting design affordability.
  • Participate in standard development for controls of additive manufacturing processes.
  • Advise 05P2 on digital technology adaptation for increased reliability and reduced cost.
  • Provide technical lead for NDE of personnel involved with inspection of components and structures.
  • Manage major developmental projects.
  • Develop the relevant ship specification sections for major acquisition.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

 

  • An Active or Current DoD Secret clearance.
  • US Citizenship
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or higher (materials science, metallurgy, welding, etc.)
    • An Associates Degree and 2 years of additional experience will be considered in lieu of Bachelor's degree or a High School Diploma/GED and 4 years of additional experience will be considered in lieu of Bachelor's degree.
  • 10 years of relevant/similar technical experience (Could include military, shipyard, academia, industry, etc.).
  • Experience in nondestructive evaluation in multiple methods including as a minimum UT and RT.
    • (Research and development work in each of these areas can substitute for a maximum of three of these years provided 24 additional months minimum are spent in an industrial environment.)
  • 3 years of similar/related experience of being responsible for illustrating the ability to function at NAVSEA or similar complex organization.
  • Demonstrate the ability to interact with senior management on complex technical issues
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills especially with Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work both in a team environment and independently, and often under short, multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to be a team player, work well with others and contribute positively to work/team environment while continually seeking ways to enhance contribution to the team.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time and some travel outside the DC area may be required.

Additional desired experience and skills:

 

  • Doctorate or Master of Science in Engineering.
  • Direct NAVSEA experience in NDT.
  • SME`s in areas of Phased Array Ultrasonics, Computed Radiography and Tomography, Eddy Current Array are desired.
  • Blend of acquisition, S&T, repair, in-service preferred
  • Understanding of NAVSEA specification requirements, procedures and protocols desired
  • 1 year of past experience supporting a DoD customer as a financial analyst.
  • Familiarity with rules governing the different Navy Appropriations, with specific knowledge of O&M,N accounts.
  • Work experience in the Navy and specifically within Team Submarine or submarines in general.
  • Knowledge of DoD policies, NAVSEASYSCOM/Team Submarine policies and procedures.
