Position Description

Looking for a Product Owner position where you can make a difference every day? Bring your expertise and meticulous skills to make an impact as our new Product Owner, supporting critical missions that enhance military defense and ensure the safety of our sailors. In this role, you will be responsible for maximizing the value delivered by the development team by ensuring the team backlog is aligned with client and stakeholder needs. You will act as the primary client advocate and link to business and technology strategy, enabling the team to balance the needs of multiple stakeholders while continuously evolving the solution. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in product management, excellent communication skills, and a passion for innovation. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential, as you will act as the primary point of contact for product-related questions and decisions across Business Units. You’ll be responsible for clearly conveying the product vision, priorities, and progress to stakeholders while working closely with Marketing and Support teams to ensure successful product launches and user adoption.

 

This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain an interim Secret clearance and maintain your active Secret clearance.

 

Serco is involved in a contract with the US Navy Office of Naval Research, providing research and development services using technologies in machine learning and knowledge management systems. The team develops and maintains software for various systems that support war fighter effectiveness overseas.

 

You will join a team of programmers that collaborates with the customer and other Serco teams to deliver systems. The team has received recognition from the Navy and the industry for their contributions to the program. Our team is known for its innovative solutions and dedication to meeting the client's needs.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Collaboration and Communication: Act as the go-to resource for product-related inquiries and strategic decisions across multiple Business Units. Clearly articulate the product’s direction, updates, and key priorities to stakeholders, while working in close coordination with Marketing and Support to drive effective product rollouts and maximize user engagement.
  • Connecting with the Client: Understanding the needs, wants, and preferences of the client, identifying key stakeholders, balancing their needs with those of the client, and developing whole-product solutions that address a range of client needs.
  • Contributing to the Vision and Roadmap: Offering pragmatic insights by understanding market forces, representing the end user, assisting with backlog prioritization, and educating the team in planning.
  • Managing and Prioritizing the Team Backlog: Guiding story creation and acceptance aligned with product strategy, achieving continuous flow of value through backlog prioritization, and making space in the backlog to support the technical infrastructure.
  • Supporting the Team in Delivering Value: Balancing stakeholder perspectives, facilitating frequent conversations with the development team to elaborate stories, working closely with the team to detect and correct quality issues, and actively attending and participating in team events.
  • Getting and Applying Feedback: Testing benefit hypotheses based on extensive client and market knowledge, obtaining feedback from clients on how well solutions meet their needs, coordinating and synchronizing the value stream by sharing feedback with the team, and evolving solution design.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in product management ideally in software or technology environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Scrum, Kanban, and other agile frameworks.
  • Skilled in prioritizing and managing product backlogs to ensure alignment with business goals.
  • Experience using Azure DevOps, Confluence/Jira or related tools for project tracking, collaboration, and documentation.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Familiarity with technical requirements and application potential vs business requirements.
  • Proven track record of creating and maintaining product roadmaps.
  • Ability to balance the needs of multiple stakeholders while continuously evolving the solution.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.

In compliance with state and local laws regarding pay transparency, the salary range for this role is $130,383.03 to $162,978.79; however, Serco considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
