Position Description

If you love high profile and challenging projects supporting the US Navy and Commercial Customers - Serco has a great opportunity for you! 

 

Serco is looking for experienced and enthusiastic designers who can contribute to the creation or revisions of 3D or 2D functional or detail/production models or drawings for ship, vessel and boat design/fabrication. Hull and primary structural detail design and/or secondary structural steel outfitting detail design. (hot work) Mechanical equipment and distributed systems outfit (pipe, and/or HVAC and/or electrical/cable) detail design. (cold work) Joiner outfitting, general equipment, and interior space arrangements detail design.

  • Develop and update 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD, ShipConstructor, Rhino, or equivalent).
  • Prepare fabrication, arrangement, and installation drawings for structural, piping, electrical, or HVAC systems.
  • Interpret and implement technical specifications, classification society rules, and customer requirements into design deliverables.
  • Perform basic design calculations and checks.
  • Coordinate with engineering, planning, and production to resolve design issues.
  • Support drawing reviews, design walkthroughs, and technical meetings.
  • Maintain revision control and drawing standards across deliverables.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • High School diploma
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in marine or shipyard design.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Proficiency in CAD tools such as AutoCAD, ShipConstructor, Aveva Marine, Rhino, or SolidWorks.
  • Familiarity with classification society rules (ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s, etc.).
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14 and US Navy drafting standards.
  • Understanding of ship systems including structure, piping, HVAC, and electrical.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Ability to travel 10%
