Serco’s Maritime Engineering Operation (MEO) is seeking a flexible, detail-oriented Engineering Technician to support part-time, on-call (PTOC) assignments across a portfolio of commercial marine projects. This role provides technical support for shipboard systems, field testing, inspections, installations, and engineering evaluations. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in the marine industry, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently in dynamic field environments.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Support field inspections, surveys, and ship checks for commercial vessels.
  • Assist engineers with testing, data collection, and documentation related to hull, mechanical, electrical, or systems installations.
  • Participate in onboard equipment installations, retrofits, and integration efforts.
  • Review and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Provide field-level feedback to project engineers and contribute to issue resolution.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and safety standards during site visits.
  • Complete and submit detailed trip or inspection reports.
  • Adhere to all PPE, access control, and onboard work requirements for each vessel and facility.
  • Support additional field engineering tasks across commercial marine programs as needed.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • High School diploma or GED with 0-2 years experience 
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance (post employment)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to quickly learn new systems and processes.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces and physically capable of lifting 50 lbs overhead.
  • Familiarity with commercial marine standards and vessel systems (electrical, mechanical, HVAC, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical manuals.
  • Proficiency in conducting detailed inventories and recording results.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel 75% on short notice and work in shipyard or onboard environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with vessel modification, retrofit, or new build support.
  • Prior work with ABS, USCG, or commercial classification societies.
