Position Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Mechanical Engineer to support the development and fabrication of mechanical components and systems for defense-related applications. This position is based in Middletown, RI, and involves hands-on engineering design, manufacturing support, and product improvement activities.

 

The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to interpret technical drawings and possess a deep understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to ensure precision and manufacturability in all mechanical designs.

Responsibilities:

 

This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance 

 

In this role, you will: 

  • Support the design and development of mechanical systems and hardware.

  • Analyze and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and design documents to ensure clarity and compliance.

  • Apply GD&T standards in the creation and review of technical drawings.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical engineers, manufacturing personnel, and quality assurance.

  • Assist in selecting materials and manufacturing methods for prototype and production builds.

  • Provide engineering support during prototype and low-rate production phases.

  • Participate in design reviews, test events, and system integration efforts.

  • Create and maintain documentation including design packages, bills of materials, and test reports.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have: 

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance 
    • U.S Citizenship required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

    • Or a High School Diploma/GED with minimum 6 years of experience in mechanical design and development (defense or related industry preferred) in lieu of degree 
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical design and development (defense or related industry preferred)

  • Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings required 

  • In-depth understanding of GD&T and its application in design and manufacturing required 

  • Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo)

  • Familiarity with material properties, machining processes, and design for manufacturability

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

  • Ability to travel up to 10%
