Position Description

 

Serco Inc., a provider of professional, technology, engineering, and management services, has been awarded a new contract to manage the repairs and upgrades of the back-up electrical plant at the Pituffik Space Base (PSB), in Greenland. Pituffik Space Base (formerly known as Thule Air Base) supporting missile warning, missile defense, and various space surveillance missions.

Serco is hiring an Engineering Technician to be part of a dynamic team supporting other experts upgrading the current backup plant on Pituffik Space Base. You will be part of a team that works closely with other Serco team members to deliver quality work in support of the US Army Corps of Engineers and the newly created US Space Force.

In support of this contract, Serco has also subcontracted with Aarsleff, a local Danish construction engineering company. After completion, the new alternate power plant will provide greater and more stable electrical capacity to the DoD’s northernmost installation.

You will be part of a 15-20 member Serco team that manages subcontractors, and self performs construction and installation work at Pituffik Space Base, Greenland.  Serco will support USACE in renovating the Power Building (J-Plant) and providing it with High-Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP) protective measures.  Serco's site leadership has extensive experience successfully working USACE projects worldwide including a previous HEMP upgrade successfully completed in 2021.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Create submittals
  • Review submittals
  • Create work plans
  • Create and review Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Conduct engineering/HEMP reviews
  • Create Purchase Requests (PRs)
  • Write specifications for materials and equipment
  • Review vendor and suppler documentation
  • Write work plans
  • Support generation of Activity Hazard Analyses
  • Be familiar with project specifications, drawings, prime, and subcontractor proposals.
  • Be familiar with quality control testing, documentation, and reporting requirements
  • The Engineering Technician typically reports to a Project Manager or Site Superintendent.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • An associate degree in a construction related or technical field from an accredited institution, or two (2) additional years of experience in commercial or government construction projects. 
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in construction, construction related, projects.
  • Be capable of interpreting a critical path schedule and construction drawings.
  • Effective organizational, multi-tasking, analytical and confidentiality skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, conflict resolution, presentation, and construction documentation comprehension skills.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • 75% Travel 
  • Must be comfortable working a 10 hr shift walking the jobsite to review project activities and progress.

 

Additional desired skills:

  • A basic understanding of EM 385-1-1.
  • Previous experience working at Pituffik Space Base or other overseas remote locations.
  • Familiarity with HEMP hardening or similar projects.
  • Background in project specific trade or skillset such as welding, HEMP shielding or testing, electrical installation, or diesel generator installation and maintenance.
  • Supervision of HEMP related construction activities.
  • Willingness to travel up to 100%
  • Class 5 & 7 forklift certification
  • Scissor lift & aerial boom certificate
  • Rigger training certificate
  • OSHA 10, OSHA 40 certification
  • Confined space training certificate
  • CPR and first aid training certificate
