As the Cybersecurity Specialist (Navy), you will be on a dynamic team at our Arlington, VA location, where you will support the efforts to design, integrate, and test the myriad of IT systems being installed aboard the vessel. The Serco Military Internship Program is an approved SkillBridge Program under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29. The SkillBridge program is an opportunity for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through an individual internship during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. Serco’s SkillBridge Program is open to all ranks and experience levels. SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from Serco, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members.

 

Responsibilities For This DOD Skill Bridge Position Are

Serco utilizes the DoD guidance for Skill Bridge. During this program the service member will be performing an individual internship. The service member will be on the job training supporting a work schedule equivalent to 40hrs per week. Outlined below are the Goals, Objectives, and Outcomes for the program.


Goals - Provide transitioning service members fellowship-style job skills training during the last portion(s) of their military commitment. This program is specifically designed to offer internships that result in the potential to transition to a full-time opportunity as the conclusion of the training. Interns will serve as a pipeline for motivated military candidates into Serco.

Objectives - Service Members who complete the Intern program will be highly-trained, capable, future employees that align to the specific needs of the organization. This program provides comprehensive internship experience including professional development, networking with leadership, and training specifically focused on Serco leadership principles, company history, customer/stakeholder engagement, product and service overview, and core job responsibilities.

Outcome - Offer transitioning service member a rewarding opportunity to join the Serco team.

Serco is seeking an energetic self-starter who wants to be part of a ship building program to support the customer’s program office. Our team supports the customer in the design, construction, and test of the U.S. Navy’s Fast Frigate warship.

In this role, you will:

 

  • Review and analyze technical documentation to ensure network architecture solutions are in accordance with guidelines for the ashore platform baseline
  • Recommend network architecture changes to bridge gaps or adjust to evolving cybersecurity policy and standards.
  • Participate in working groups to review and document system software vulnerabilities.
  • Identify software deficiencies and recommend mitigation solutions.
  • Work within a peer group of technical staff to periodically review requirements documents, technical plans, results, and work products.
  • Provide support for the risk management program, including facilitation of risk board meetings and assessments.
  • Participate in inspections of all IT systems after installation aboard the platform.
  • Draft applicable inspection reports that note discrepancies against approved build specs and PARM system requirements.
  • Provide support during the cybersecurity test & evaluation of developmental & operational tests of FFG 62 and ships that follow.
  • Work within the team to prepare formal briefings to the U.S. Government staff and project sponsors.
  • Participate in technical discussions at program review sessions in accordance with direct taskings.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Meets DoD Skill Bridge Qualifications as per DODI 1322.29.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Active DoD Secret Clearance
    • This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain an active DoD Security clearance (Secret).  Preference will be given to candidates that have a current security clearance. 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering equivalent or related technical field preferred.
    • An Associate's Degree and 2 years of additional experience or a High School Diploma/GED and 4 years of additional experience will be considered in lieu of Bachelor's Degree.
  • 1 year of experience
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Excellent oral and technical report writing skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
