Position Description

SERCO is seeking a Principal Military Trainer – World Class Opposing Forces (WCOPFOR) Protection Planner to join our growing team of diverse professionals at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas

 

This position is contingent upon your ability to maintain Secret clearance and obtain a Top Secret clearance.

 

The WCOPFOR Staff Protection planner will be joining the World Class Opposing Forces (WCOPFOR) of the Mission Command Training Program (MCTP). As the WCOPFOR, we assist the training of theater Army Command, Joint Task Force, Army Corps, and Division headquarters with the Army Mission Command Systems and Operations Process. The WCOPFOR team plans, prepares, and executes Army Command, Corps, and Division level exercises each year.  During planning, the WCOPFOR Staff produce a competitive CORPS level Operations Order. The Protection Planner will lead the Protection planning, development, and execution in all phases of the military training exercise. This will include OPORD planning, primary author of Annex’s, appendixes, and tabs, issued in the initial OPORD, developing subsequent FRAGORDs, and during the Warfighter execution will be the led for the Protection in the WCOPFOR Corp Command Post. The Protection Planner will assist in the post-WFX AAR development. The Protection Planner will have an additional duty as an Exercise Support Planner (as needed) to support Warfighter exercises.

 

This this role you will:

  • Conduct mission analysis of higher headquarters guidance (CSA, FORSCOM, CAC).
  • Produce a CORPS level Operations Order.
  • Coordinate and synchronize warfighting functions in all plans and orders.
  • Develop plans, orders, branches, and sequels.
  • Write Competitive orders for each respective Warfighter Exercise
  • Acts as primary Protection Planner and advisor to the WCOPFOR Commander as part of the Operationally apply current Army and Joint Doctrine to develop War-fighting Functions (WfF) appropriate concepts for respective exercises.
  • Support the writing of OPFOR Base OPORD and assist WfFs Annexes at the Corps and Land Component level to direct operations based on the developed concept.
  • Primary author of Annex E (Protection) and Annex G (Engineers).
  • As required, be prepared to execute your additional duty as an Exercise Support Planner (ESP). This involves attending planning meetings, writing, publishing, and delivering Exercise Life Cycle Event Contract Deliverables (CDRL).
  • As required, be prepared to execute your additional duty and travel as an Exercise Support Planner during Warfighter exercise to receive equipment, support the HST leadership and Exercise control (EXCON) during Warfighter exercises.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:  

  • U.S. citizenship with an active DoD Secret security clearance required to start with the ability to obtain a Top-Secret security clearance if needed.
  • One of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 7 years of professional and/or military leadership experience.
    • Master’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of professional and/or military leadership experience.
  • Former field grade officer, Chief Warrant Officer 4/5 and graduate of as. Military Level Education Level 4 (MEL 4) or equivalent Intermediate Level Education (ILE).
  • Successfully served in a key developmental position at Battalion/Brigade/Division level (i.e., Protection Officer, Operations Officer, Executive Officer, Brigade Planner, Current Operations or Future Operations Officer). Demonstrated tactical and technical proficiency in operational environments characterized as being contested across all domains.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite of software (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access).
  • Must be familiar with all new and current Army and Joint regulations and publications applicable to this position prior to employment.
  • Must be able to travel in the United States and overseas to support simulation-based Army training exercises as needed (up to 25% of the time).
  • Must be able to work on-site at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas.

Additional desired experience and Skills:

  • Combat deployment experience in OIF, OEF, OND, etc. 
  • Highly desirable to have served as Protection Chief or Operational staff officer, or Brigade/Division/Corps level staff positions as a S3 / G3 / G35, G5 Planner.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in design, planning, configuration, and execution of large-scale computer simulation exercises
  • Previous experience in computer-assisted simulation training
  • Experience in Warfighter’s Simulation (WARSIM)
  • Experience working with Mission Command Training Program (MCTP).
  • Familiar with U.S. Army Doctrine and Opposing Forces Doctrine (FM 7-100 Series).
  • Prior experience as an Observer Controller/Trainer (OC/T)
  • U.S. citizenship with an active DoD Top Secret security clearance, able to be read on to TS/SCI programs.
