Position Description

Serco is seeking a Military Trainer – Sustainment Subject Matter Expert / Exercise Planner. This role supports the Joint Staff (JS) in delivering Collective Joint Training (CJT) enhancing the operational effectiveness of both current and future joint forces. The Exercise Planner is responsible for executing tasks throughout the Joint Exercise Life Cycle (JELC), collaborating closely with supported military customers and CJT leadership.

 

This position is contingent upon your ability to maintain and transfer your U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.

 

 

Overview: Provides expert sustainment planning support to Combatant Commands, Geographic Joint Event Support Teams (JEST), and various sections of JS J7 and Joint Staff Support Team (JST)  This role supports the implementation of CJCS guidance and policy by coordinating plans, analysis, design, and command & control activities for sustainment operations in joint exercise design. The position ensures effective integration of sustainment solutions into joint and multinational strategic and operational plans aligned with the Joint Commander's exercise program.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Provide sustainment planning and execution support for joint exercises under CJCS guidance.
  • Integrate sustainment operations into joint/combined operational plans using joint doctrine, best practices, and lessons learned.
  • Support the Joint Exercise Life Cycle (JELC), focusing on sustainment integration and milestone completion.
  • Collaborate with Combatant Commands and Joint Task Force (JTF) staffs to develop/refine strategic campaigns, contingency plans, and multinational operations.
  • Analyze and synthesize operational observations to improve staff processes and achieve unified action.
  • Assess the strategic impact of evolving operations; incorporate insights into future exercise design.
  • Provide recommendations on sustainment doctrine, validated concepts, and lessons learned to enhance joint capabilities.
  • Conduct sustainment analysis and strategic assessments for senior joint leadership.
  • Identify sustainment requirements; develop concepts, resource plans, data models, and mission plans/orders.
  • Maintain working knowledge of joint logistics capabilities (e.g., supply, distribution, maintenance, medical, engineering, contracting).
  • Assist and augment other Sustainment Team members; assume lead/support roles as needed during exercises

Basic Qualifications for Military Trainer – Sustainment SME / Exercise Planner:

  • A U.S. citizenship.
  • Must possess an active U.S. DoD Secret security clearance.
  • One of the following:
    • A High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 7 years of professional and/or military leadership experience.
    • or a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of professional and/or military leadership experience.
    • or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 1 year of professional and/or military leadership experience.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a commissioned officer, non-commissioned officer, or U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) civilian equivalent.
  • Must be willing and able to travel both CONUS and OCONUS as needed (up to 35% of the time).
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid U.S. Passport.
  • Must be able to work on-site in Suffolk, Virginia.

 

Basic Qualifications for Principal Military Trainer – Sustainment SME / Exercise Planner:

  • A U.S. citizenship.
  • Must possess an active U.S. DoD Secret security clearance.
  • One of the following:
    • A High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 10 years of professional leadership experience.
    • or a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of professional leadership experience.
    • or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 4 year of professional leadership experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a commissioned officer, non-commissioned officer, or U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) civilian equivalent.
  • Must be willing and able to travel both CONUS and OCONUS as needed (up to 25% of the time).
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid U.S. Passport.
  • Must be able to work on-site in Suffolk, Virginia.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with operation of a military logistics simulation model.
  • Service or Combatant Command Headquarters or JS J7 Staff experience.
  • Experience working with and around senior military and government personnel.
