Position Description

The Surface Training Systems (STS) Program Office is the OPNAV single point of contact for strategic program planning, policy, acquisition, life-cycle management, research and development, and technical insertion into all existing and future Navy Surface Training Systems. Serco is hiring a DDG 1000 Surface Warfare Instructor/Simulator Exercise Controller to support the DDG 1000 ZUMWALT Training Facility (ZTF) and associated training products. This role will work under the direction of a site Lead, and within the scope of work derived from a contract with a government customer, performs multi-faceted assignments, to include instructing and/or facilitating instructor led courses, developing, modifying and updating curriculum, developing and running scenarios to support ship qualifications and certifications in a training environment.  

 

An Active Secret Level Clearance is required prior to beginning employment.

 

Work will typically be performed in our San Diego, CA office 3 days/week with two days working in a remote status. Therefore, flexibility with a hybrid work schedule is required.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Develop curriculum to support demands of the changing program
  • Update curriculum to support demands of the changing program.
  • Modify curriculum to support demands of the changing program
  • Maintain curriculum to support demands of the changing program
  • Counsel Students on academic learning challenges and develop solutions to address student challenges.
  • Develop scenarios for DDG 1000 Ship’s Mission Center trainer to support qualification and/or certification.
  • Operate the DDG 1000 trainer as a Training Supervisor and Exercise Controller
  • Demonstrate excellent writing and presentation skills to translate ideas into briefings, documents, papers, conceptual, and analytical reports for clients.
  • Provide recommendations to government senior-level staff.
  • Develop training/briefing slides and materials for senior leadership. 
  • Manage a shared calendar for events and classes in a schoolhouse.
  • Manage organization and follow up of technical comments from various subject matter experts on ship and curriculum change documents.
  • Update student databases.
  • Maintain and prepare reports from manual or electronic files, inventories, mailing lists and databases.
  • Maintain internal, manual or computerized record-keeping systems.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • An Active Secret clearance.
  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • 7 years directly relevant work experience.
    • Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience.
  • Instructor Qualification (i.e. Navy Instructor NEC)
  • Former Navy Surface Warfare and or Navy Training experience
  • Knowledge and experience in U.S. Navy programs. 
  • Expertise level abilities using Microsoft applications, especially PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • The ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Additional desired experioence and skills:

  • Master Training Specialist or Afloat Training Specialist a plus.
  • Prior DDG 1000 Experience highly desired.
