As a Shipbuilding Production Specialist, you will be working near Lake Michigan in Marinette, Wisconsin helping our US Navy customer by building our Navy’s newest warship. This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain/maintain/or transfer your ctive DoD Secret security clearance. Serco is a leading support contractor to the US Navy and as such we work directly for PMS 515, part of the Program Office’s effort to procure and deliver the finest ships for our sailors and our country.  Serco supports the US Navy in acquisition of the Navy’s newest Frigate by reviewing engineering products and monitoring every phase of the production efforts at the Shipbuilder’s Facility in Marinette, Wisconsin. Every aspect of this position requires experience and knowledge, and it will also provide the opportunity to excel. You will be working with experienced shipbuilders and will be able to combine your knowledge and insight with the FFG production team.  You will be part of a large contingent of Serco and Navy personnel on-site to support the ship construction effort. You will be exposed to every aspect of shipbuilding and share in the wealth of knowledge. You will work in the busy industrial atmosphere of shipyard involved in the serial production of the Navy’s newest warship. Daily interfaces will be with shipyard personnel at all levels, other Serco SMEs, Analysts and Engineers, SUPSHIP Bath personnel at all levels, Program Office (PMS-515) at all levels and visiting DOD personnel. In this role as an onsite (waterfront) Shipbuilding Production Specialist, you will:- Conduct daily surveys of structure fabrication and assembly work areas, making observations of plate cutting, plate joining by fitting and welding, panel layout markings, positioning, alignment of panel stiffeners, and fitting/welding frames, beams, girders, and other structural members.  - Record results of daily survey observations, using written reports and photos as needed and prepare presentable information for higher levels of management up to and including the Navy’s Program Manager.- Conduct field surveys and inspections of handling processes, positioning and alignment, module support blocking procedures and also periodically check dimensional accuracy as structural subassemblies move further down the production line and are combined to form modules and grand modules.- Conduct physical inspections/surveys of panels, subassemblies and modules under construction and develop/report estimates of physical percent completion progress values.- Determine status of overall production progress for completed and inspected welds on panels, subassemblies, modules, and master butt welds on the hull.- Develop comparative evaluations of shipyard processes to validate the most effective and efficient methods are being employed.- Anticipate and report challenges to completing both fabrication work and welded joints using the planned methods, processes, and procedures—this based on personal observation, experience, and skills.- Develop and provide recommendations for process improvements, based on daily observations of structural fabrication and welding work at the Frigate work areas.- Contribute to the shipyards and the Navy’s success by helping to ensure that fabrication and welding processes are being correctly carried out.- Assist with Serco’s documentation process for field observations and related data keeping.- Draft reports of conditions found and recommended solutions when known.- Serve as a liaison between the Serco on-site team and both SUPSHIP and Navy Program Office technicians.- Use experience, personal observation, and knowledge to identify emergent issues that could be non-compliant with specifications or affect the production schedule.- Prepare weekly and monthly status reports to Serco’s Task Lead documenting work activity, challenges encountered and recommended corrective actions.- Maintain a general awareness of structural components in fabrication (both onsite and offsite) and have a working knowledge of events in progress.- Be aware of overall production processes at the shipyard and its subcontractor facilities, particularly relating to fabrication and welding activities to include any flame straightening and repair cycles. - Be able to alert production team leadership of potential issues and to propose solutions when possible. Work closely with SUPSHIP SMEs and Quality counterparts sharing information and technical support.

Selected candidates will be expected to effectively communicate with NAVSEA, prime contractors, Naval shipyards, and equipment vendors.- Responsible for maintaining respective system diagrams and system descriptions/supporting calculations.- Responsible for new construction test specifications and SMITE test/trial specifications.- Interface with resolving construction related issues in SMITE in preparation for first of class trials.- Supplier technical management in partnership with supply chain- Technical correspondence (internal and external) by Inquiry Forms and PQs, which are similar to VIRs / UNSATs- Change management via Enterprise Change Request- Work well within a time sensitive environment.
